I remember when I posted, on average, once a day. Now it's an odd occurrence for me to post more than once a week. I'm going to try to remedy that... But first I must pee, excuse me for a moment. Mmm... coffee. So, I'm bored at work (what else is new, right?) and something popped into my mind. Before I go, you must understand that I am a geek. Right, so back to my thought... There's a channel that has been showing all of the Star Wars movies in order, one each Sunday. I just realized something wasn't right. I know, I know, pointing out Star Wars continuity errors is like shooting fish in a barrel, but I have to... because I'm a geek. Now then, at the end of Episode III, Obi Wan leaves a (mostly) limbless and burning Anakin on a shore of lava, taking Anakin's blue-bladed lightsabre. Near the middle of Episode IV, Obi Wan passes the lightsabre on the Luke, who turns it on... and it has a green blade. Right, I'm sure you're not reading my journal for odd thoughts like that. Um... wait, why are you reading my journal... who are all of you people... where are we going and why am I in this HAND BASKET!?! *breathe, breathe* Ok... so Kat and I have been taking dance lessons from the maid of honor, who luckily used to teach ballroom dancing professionally. She doing it for free and says that I'm catching on quite quickly. :D I still feel a little weird doing it, though. Oh well, we've still got five months to get comfortable with it. I went to see Iron Man a few days ago. I'm thoroughly impressed. However, I think I ws expecting more... you know, from all the hype. Or maybe, it was just that Iron Man wasn't one of my favorite comic book characters... I don't know. We finally got the shower in the master bedroom fixed, and I was going to hop in (we've ben using the shower in the guest bathroom), when I noticed the stain on the ceiling. We probably would have noticed it sooner, if we had been using that shower, but we hadn't. I looks like the upstairs neighbor has a leaky pipe. Upon closer inspection, we could also see the ceiling sagging a bit. Great. Just wonderful. We have a plumber coming out tomorrow, as we don't want her bathroom falling through into ours... and this means we still have to use the smaller shower in the meantime. *sigh* At least we caught it before it collapsed. Hmm... I swear there was more I was going to write about. Oh yeah, I'm currently engaging in international trading of goods with squishtastic. That's fun! Did you know that they don't have Twinkies (or any Hostess products) in the UK? I bought a skittles board in an online auction (not eBay, rather shopgoodwill.com) and am anxiously awaiting its arrival. It will be a present for Kat, since she fell in love with the game the first time she saw it (if you know Kat in real life, please don't tell her what it is, as it is a surprise... you can, however, let her know that you know what it is!). When it arrives, hopefully it will have all of the pieces, but if not, I found a site that sells them separately from the board. So, in everyone's opinion, how long should we wait after getting married to begin pursuing parenthood? Current Location: work Current Mood: bored

Since I've actually finished everything I was supposed to do today (well, with the exception of laundry, but I'll be doing that for the rest of the night), I decided to start actively packing for Portals in a couple of weeks. I know it's kind of early, but I'd already moved Mattie's stuff out of my LARP bin and Saoirse's stuff was just kind of sitting around in the way. While packing, it occurred to me that I need to make a sheath for the giant greatsword of doom, because I don't actually have one and I do not want to have to carry that thing around all weekend. Substituting one of my dagger sheaths won't work because I need both daggers, and because they just attach to my belt. I'll need something that sheathes over my shoulder to keep the sword from dragging on the ground. It's, um, as tall as me... maybe taller, since I haven't seen the phys-rep Adrian's making. It's supposed to be a max-length greatsword and that's 62 inches. I'm not quite 61 inches. Maybe I should've asked Adrian to take off an inch or two? ...how am I supposed to fight with this thing? Well, I guess I'll figure it out somehow, but anyway, sheath. I need to pick up a cheap belt at a thrift store to make into a shoulder strap and a scrap of thick leather for the sheath itself. It shouldn't be too complicated and there's a Tandy Leather in Raleigh, so I suspect I'll be hitting that up reasonably soon. I'm not going to be able to have the armor I wanted for Saoirse by this game, but I'm bringing my old Lore armor rep instead. I'll just switch out the reps when I manage to upgrade. The Lore armor is really ranger-like, which is not exactly appropriate to the character, but I guess I'll deal. I'm also taking apart a pair of Ed's old bracers to whittle down and make a pair for myself. They are way too big on my skinny little arms at the moment. After the first Portals, it occurred to me that, should I continue being a front line fighter with my character (which is pretty much what I made her for), I should probably invest in some armor. Then maybe I'll fall down less, though Saoirse will miss waking up next to Firmut after battles (it happened so often at the first game, it was practically a running gag... maybe Corey will pick up some armor too). I've been working on a Summer Corset. It's not done yet, but I thought I'd show you all my progress... ( Lots of Pictures )Picture Meaning: 1. I am using L.M. #100 2. I drew out the pattern on butcher paper, and altered it flat to my measurements. 3. I'm using Aida Cloth... not very "meshy" but I'm using this go round as a "workable test" I've found some other needle point cloth that is considerably more "meshy"... so working out the kinks... :D 4. I'm using 1.25 inch twill tape on ironed open seams to reenforce the seams... 5. I'm using flat steels as boning in the front and back, and spirals on the sides. 6. I used a spoon busk, that was too short... I laced it up with some pretty ribbon to make the busk long enough. Things I will change... either now or later on next time through... 1. I will either change the 2 bones in the center front between busk gores with spirals instead of flats... or alter the busk gore pattern... 2. change how I run the bones down the front... the way that it is going looks like butt, I mean, unattractive. 3. The back is too high... I need to bring down the top edge, it's hitting my shoulder blade, and it's annoying. 4. Oh and I spilled freaking coke on it. meh. Tags: laughing moon 100, skeleton corsets
